R & B has been making a hard comeback! Maxwell, Al B Sure, Ryan Leslie…these mens been doing it!
I put together a bunch of my favorites as well as some new and cool joints I love.
This mix means a lot to me. Those of you who knew me as a teenager, knew that I was a firm follower of the Daisy Age. I walked around with hand painted daisies on the butts of my jeans, wore a leather Africa piece, had the Mexican poncho with the Native American woven backpack. In my ears was a yellow Sony waterproof Walkman with homemade mixtapes of pro Black, pro Women, pro progress music. This was also during the aftermath of the crack epidemic…when Harlem still could resemble New Jack City..and the lyrics in the musics lamented the effects of crack and what it did to ordinary people.
Mellow May – This mix was requested by my best friend Tutu. Yeah she’s my best friend. Divaliscious is my sister and Tutu is my best friend. She requested this mix for her b’day back in April and although I was still going to class at Scratch, I put this together for her. I used some of songs I was listening to in April and may…with some of the songs i used for my final at the Scratch Academy…with some of the songs I heard during Tutu’s birthday weekend…
NOT SAFE FOR WORK or Children or your Grandmama!!!!
Many of you know I’ve been on vacation from The Mixtress. During this time I been working hard at my J.O.B, attending classes at The Scratch Academy and hanging out in the strip club LMAO!!!
The Monday Mixtape will be late today. I may not be able to get to it until tomorrow. I had a Man Down situation….let me tell you what happened…
My girl Golden aka Miss Jo_Ladie made a request last week for some workout music! Now me and her go way back…back to where we didn’t speak but moved around in the same blog circles (back when I was a personal blogger lol) Since arriving on Twitter and especially since my return back to NY…it seems we have gotten closer and that’s a good thing because I would never have know what a talented and sweet person she is. I went all over the place with this mix…playing some of my recent favorites like DJ Webstar and Lady Gaga…I also took it back to the oldschool..because…well because that what I do baby!
I Love R&B. I mean really really love it! The new artists coming out really don’t have that soul that I’m looking for…or the longevity factor…
Not John Legend!!!! Whether he’s singing about cheating on you, leaving you or loving you…his sultry, raspy growl will have you straining to get every last lick and lyric coming out of his mouth. Not to mention his piano skills which leave me absolutely breathless! ( and I thought only Prince could do that!LOL)
It’s my birthday this week so I guess I had to treat myself right? So for my Mixtape present to myself I compiled all of my John Legend favorites…i hope I included yours!
This week’s Monday Mixtape was inspired by several different factors. Whenever I go to a party I always request songs…I can’t help it! And I always love when they play a track beyond the 2 min break…for me …some songs are meant to be 5-9 mins long!
Moving back to New York in 08 has had it’s challenges but has been very rewarding. Most people who come to my site now don’t know that I started off as topic driven blogger 4 years ago (who had the long posts lol). I always had the moniker DJ Diva before I started blogging. I […]
