This mixtape is dedicated to my Sister Divalicious but it is not safe for work! (So that means children too at your own discretion)
When we were in our twenties, my sister was a bartender at a couple of famous Harlem bar lounges such as 22 West and Jewels. This was before the age of DJs playing regular nights at bars so after 12am, I pretty much dominated the jukebox. I would play some of these songs and the older folks would be shocked that such pretty young girls loved such raunchy and misogynistic music. We danced and laughed it off…but this was our “blue hiphop”.
On this mix I included a lot of her favorites from the South and West, but I also gave a her a good dose of some new Harlem music springing up from Will Traxx and Boogie Black. I wanted to send some North down South!
Happy Birthday Sis!
I love you.
