It’s seems like forever since I made a mixtape for the mixtress. Heck it’s been even longer since I did a new music mixtape. I’ve knee deep in old school over on TV One working their Unsung series. I’ve done a lot of mixes for them and hopefully soon I can post them here for your listening enjoyment.

But back to this mixtape..

I have been jamming to some of these songs since May so I hope you indulge me in some of my song choices. I have the pleasure of including some new tracks by Syleena Johnson and Kindred The Family. I’m the Mixtress of R&B so of course I have Jill Scott, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Monica and  Tyrese. Although the mix is R&B flavored, I have some hip hop included like that new song Otis by Jay Z and Kanye, some Frank Ocean, Big Sean and J.Cole. I’m sure this mixtape will make you dance so I put in some dance tracks by Pitbull and a new jam “Titanium” from David Guetta featuring Mary that is HOT even with the tags. For my Reggae massive I have some Rhianna, Movado, Elephant Man and a great tune from Melanie Fiona. I got some slow jams too: this mix reminds me of those old school Hot 97 bootleg cds lol

The Cross Country Collective is a group made up of Fave, Mr. Fresh and Todd Kelley. I know you have heard all three voices in my mixtapes because they are some of the founders of the Music Podcast Consortium.  My big brothers put together a virtual group and released their first EP. I’m so proud of them and I know you will love their track “Give It To Ya”.

It was also through C3 that I got to know and love Philip Clark. Philip Clark was born with Rhythm & Blues in his blood, despite being the only funky white boy of his kind to hail from Wyoming. A natural performer since childhood, he continued to hone his aural talents with a formal degree in music and thereafter in some of the best venues and studios in the Rockies. . In 2001, he released his debut, “The State of Blue-Eyed Soul,” which held Top-10 positions on several radio charts. He now lives in Los Angeles and is currently producing his sophomore effort, “The Dreamchilde Suites.” I included his single “World Turns Around”. It’s such a great track and I’m looking forward to featuring him again soon..

One last special mention goes out to my boy  Kristopher Lamont. A Detroit native, I met Kris at a Michael Jackson Memorial concert held at SOB’s by Soulbounce and Eric Roberson.  “Change” is Kristopher’s first track as an independent artist and was recorded with Maurice “Moe” Whitsett. Presently, work is being put in with Keith “Bubby” Webb on Kristopher’s debut album looking to be released in the winter. His voice is buttery, velvety and quite polished and there is already a buzz about town for this upcoming act from Detroit. “I want to touch people with my voice. I came to bring love to all through my music. Even when I’m singing about things that might not make one smile, it’s to say, – hey, I’ve been through that too and I hope this song gets you through.” I have to say I love this track and it quickly became one of my theme songs!

Hey Everybody!!! I’m back from vacation down in Memphis, TN!!!!

This is the first of 4 mixtapes that were inspired while I was on my vacation. Bobby Womack Vs David Ruffin. Both were powerhouses in the R&B scene during the 70′s and early 80′s and my heart has a soft spot for both of them. Happy New Year Everybody!

The new year is starting out great for me…I’ve been pulled back into my old hustle of making customized mixtapes. I had so much fun with this one. This is the story:

One of my good friends L put me in touch one of her friends who was having a cruise ship wedding. When it was determined that my schedule wouldn’t allow me to go to DJ for her, she still wanted a mixtape of her and the groom’s favorite songs done by me. She arranged for the ship’s DJ to allow her to play the cd. Now I know he ain’t gonna be happy when he see them having a ball to my set and sitting during his…but…that’s not my problem.

We contracted a nice rate, she sent me her list of 50 songs. I pared that down to 34 and I produced a pretty tight mix. Matter of fact…the mix was so good I needed to share it with yall too. It has everything on it from hip-hop to soca. A little reggae, some R&B and of course some old school. This is not the final mix that I’m producing for her but it will be very similar with specialized drops and such.

I will be hyping my customized mixtapes for hire in the future so i hope you email me at djdivathemixtress@gmail.com if you have need for something special. For my friend L I made her cds for her 30th b’day with a song from each year of her birth. She gave them out a party favors on her b’day trip to Vegas! I’m also excited about this because I know my niche is small parties and weddings. There will be more info forthcoming about contracting me for that.

My boy Fave recently went on a search for my first House Music Mixtape on the mixtress. That made me smile but then I listened to it too. I have come such a long way since then. I decided to do a bit of a remix with Bentley’s in mind. If you never got a chance to go to Bentley’s Nightclub in the 80′s and 90′s, you missed a great place to party! Two floors with huge dance areas. An enormous front bar with plenty of seating area. Mirrors and poles everywhere! You could dance with yourself in the middle of the dance floor because they had mirrored columns in great spots. Bentley’s also had the best club DJ in New York working there. Darryl James was turntabling every Friday and Saturday night. Plus he was providing the “Live at Five” mix on Kiss-FM. He was kind enough to put me on the DJ’s list every week and let me hang around the booth picking up tricks and learning music. I still say Darryl James is the best house DJ ever! All those years watching him in DJ booths around the city. I sometimes wonder if he knows how much he taught me as a 19 year old and up. I tell you..I can’t wait to get new equipment to make these mixes even tighter.

Hey Everybody! I had more requests for the 90′s so this time I went mid late 90′s. Full of the bouncy R&B joints and since I spent the weekend with hubby, I threw in a few joints for him too. He’s been playing my Mellow May and August Heat mixtapes a lot in the last two weeks so I know this will make it onto his Ipod as well. I experimented and practiced more with the techniques I learned at the Scratch Academy..Sometimes it worked…sometimes I didn’t quite hit the mark..I’m a work in progress. Despite the minor flaws I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do!

This is part 2 of the Monday Mixtape for this week. Here is part one..

So I like I said before…I have been swamped by outings with friends, the twins graduation, Prom and induction into the Honor Society, changes in leadership at the job…It’s been quite a summer so far.

I’m behind but I like to keep my promises.

This mix was requested by my best friend Tutu. Yeah she’s my best friend. Divaliscious is my sister and Tutu is my best friend. She requested this mix for her b’day back in April and although I was still going to class at Scratch, I put this together for her. I used some of songs I was listening to in April and may…with some of the songs i used for my final at the Scratch Academy…with some of the songs I heard during Tutu’s birthday weekend…

Funny thing is…I threw a graduation party for the twins and this mix was such a hit…so uhm…you might want to listen to what your kids are listening to..

I took too long posting it…but those who have had it…have loved it…so why hold on to it?
