It’s seems like forever since I made a mixtape for the mixtress. Heck it’s been even longer since I did a new music mixtape. I’ve knee deep in old school over on TV One working their Unsung series. I’ve done a lot of mixes for them and hopefully soon I can post them here for your listening enjoyment.

But back to this mixtape..

I have been jamming to some of these songs since May so I hope you indulge me in some of my song choices. I have the pleasure of including some new tracks by Syleena Johnson and Kindred The Family. I’m the Mixtress of R&B so of course I have Jill Scott, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Monica and  Tyrese. Although the mix is R&B flavored, I have some hip hop included like that new song Otis by Jay Z and Kanye, some Frank Ocean, Big Sean and J.Cole. I’m sure this mixtape will make you dance so I put in some dance tracks by Pitbull and a new jam “Titanium” from David Guetta featuring Mary that is HOT even with the tags. For my Reggae massive I have some Rhianna, Movado, Elephant Man and a great tune from Melanie Fiona. I got some slow jams too: this mix reminds me of those old school Hot 97 bootleg cds lol

This mixtape is really centered on his Uptown days. I remember when my mother brought home the first Guy album on 33. I sat for hours listening to it over and over. It was such a fresh sound, so different from the standard R&B format of the 80′s. I adored their clean cut look and Teddy was such a short cutie pie.

I’m starting it out with Fuck you by Ceelo and ending it with Runaway..pretty much sums up my life in 2010! Recently, I G-Chatted with the one and only Mixtress of R&B, DJ Diva, a little while ago wanting to know if I’d like to share one of her great mixes with TSR’s readership. Now, I couldn’t very well contact you all and ask you personally but I’m pretty sure you’d want it. So on your behalf, I quickly and happily accepted.

Diva shot the links over and we checked it out all while typing this up and throwing together a quick artwork for the files. The entire mix is compiled of all the tracks from last year that made the majority of the noise in those nighttime meeting places and venues, as well as just plain old smash hits. Now you know full well that I don’t normally cater to commercial anything, but this mix has a good bit of tracks that got heavy rotation which I did enjoy whenever the rarity of a terrestrial radio station was playing within earshot.

Plus it’s a DJ Diva mix!! With her being ”Your favorite blogger’s favorite DJ“, and being well known for her Monday Mixtape series, also in addition to recently being featured on SOULBOUNCE as their first female Mixologist, how could I pass this up?

In true DJ Diva fashion she has provided links to a Lo-Fi version that while is FREE and sounds dayum good, won’t make your speakers thump as much as the Hi-Fi version which we’ll be hosting on Bandcamp for a penny short of a whole dollar.

Considering the economy, thats not a bad deal. Plus if you were to buy all these tracks separately, in CD Quality and on the iTunes, it would run you $26 but hey, we’ll let you do your own math.

Hey Everybody! I came up with this mix after watching the new Tyler Perry Movie “For Colored Girls” based on the play “For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Wasn’t Enuf” by Ntozake Shange. I personally thought it was a good movie. I was thankful to see so many actresses of color working in a film about us. I am grateful that Tyler took the project on even though most don’t think he was qualified to do it. If he didn’t do it…who would have?

Anyway, considering my situation and the fact that I identified with most of the characters I decided to put together my own mix. I chose a song for all of the characters and for myself. I hope you enjoy it!

Hey Everybody! This is a New Music Monday Mixtape. It’s a compilation of the songs my twins daughters requested for their birthday mix and some new songs that have come out that I just love to death! The first being the new track from El Debarge and Faith Evans. While I’m not a fan of Faith’s new album (because I feel like she could have used better producers for her phenomenal voice) this new track “Lay With You” is a winner! I really wanted to put more Eminem because I’m in love with his new album “Recovery” (and wouldn’t you know he released a new version of “Love The Way You Lie” after I made this mix…RATS!) Trey Songz is being herbed for his new mixtape: both Raheem DeVaughn and R. Kelly remade two of the best songs on the mixtape, although I couldn’t include Kells version of “Already Taken” because I couldn’t score a clean copy (shakes fist).

If you haven’t noticed I am a BIG Drake fan and my daughters are BIG Nikki Minaj fans. It’s so cute. My girls barely used to watch videos and now they know all the lyrics to rap songs. So cute to see them develop their musical tastes and it’s rubbed off on  me! I’m rapping as hard as they are to her songs and contorting my head and facial expressions. I know…I’m a mess! Love Love Love the new T.I. with Chris Brown. It’s a great song for both of them considering their legal troubles “My Road to Redemption Has No GPS!” WORD!

Hey Everybody! It’s time for a new Producer Spotlight. This week I’m doing Swizz Beatz!!!

I call him the King of the break because he has best break timing I’ve ever heard. Although he mainly works with rappers, Swizz is more than capable of producing an R&B Mega Hit! My favorite song to dance to in the club is still “Get Me Bodied” and Beyonce’s handlers were brilliant when they got Swizz to do that beat. Swizz Beatz has been on the scene since the late 90′s and much of his early work was with the Ruff Ryder crew. He made those hard core thugs from Yonkers transform into club kings with his beats. One of his best years so far was 2007 where he had 10 songs on the billboard charts.

Hey Everybody! This is June Jacking Part 5! It should be called the Drake Edition because of course I love his new album!

I call it June Jacking because when I started hustling mixed cds 7 years ago…it was really jacking the net for music then.  I would spend hours searching for songs and uploading songs from my cds…just a long drawn out process!

Things are easier now with places like Limewire and Dopehood.com (love yall!)  When I need new music now I tend to head over to Eb-the Celeb‘s site or YouHeardThatNew (although I don’t mess with rap that much). My new music mixes are generally more on the hiphop side and probably not safe for children under 11. Play at your own risk!

This Monday Mixtape was a special request from one of my listeners. I put up a shoutbox for requests and Ebony so sweetly requested a mix of songs that inspire women. This was perfect timing because my birthday is Saturday and nothing makes an Aries feel better than some pump-me-up music. Some of my choices may leave you like huh? but I must say all of these songs mean a lot to me. I’ll never forget when I went on an interview for Pepsi and my cell phone went off. It was my mother of course, but I was so embarrassed because my ringtone was “Don’t Cha”. My interviewer smiled at me and said, “I love that song too”. I got the job.

Hey Everybody! It’s time for a new music mixtape again. I’m still playing the one I did in December (I said that last year too lol). March Madness Part 2. It should be called “Radio Friendly” because a lot of these songs are being played on the radio right now. There is a new track by Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beatz called “Fancy” that I am just in love with. I was unable to get a clean copy but I didn’t care! Thanks Tapemasters Inc anyway!

My favorite mix moment was between #8. I Come First – Ne-Yo and #9. Freak – Estelle Ft. Kardinal Offishall. I just grin every time I hear that part of the mix. I’m also diggin that song “Miss Chocolate” by Lil Jon, R. Kelly and Mario and the new J. Holiday song “Pretty Body”. I’m still loving the Untitled Album by R. Relly and it’s always nice to hear a new tune by John Legend (Thanks EbTheCeleb!) A few minor glitches but I love the mix and I hope you will too!
