Hey Everybody! This week’s mixtape is all about 70′s heartbreak. I picked some of the songs that used to make me cry, my momma cry and my daddy. I’m sure Grandma listened to quite a few of these too!I’m trying out something new. I’ve had a lot of requests for more slow music so
This mix means a lot to me. Those of you who knew me as a teenager, knew that I was a firm follower of the Daisy Age. I walked around with hand painted daisies on the butts of my jeans, wore a leather Africa piece, had the Mexican poncho with the Native American woven backpack. In my ears was a yellow Sony waterproof Walkman with homemade mixtapes of pro Black, pro Women, pro progress music. This was also during the aftermath of the crack epidemic…when Harlem still could resemble New Jack City..and the lyrics in the musics lamented the effects of crack and what it did to ordinary people.
I will end up taking a few weeks off from the Mixtress because of the job, plus I’m learning so much at the Scratch Academy I wanna start practicing at home more. With the new turntables and loads of records that I have to catalog…I will be quite busy!
So I’m gonna leave you with some funk to tide you over til I get back. I also have a surprise!
This week’s Monday Mixtape may sound like a repeat. For some of you it is lol I love Blue Eyed Soul and last year I did a mix and posted it. Well I did two mixes and posted the wrong one with the track listing. So today I decided to revisit them, post both with [...]
Sorry I’m a day late! Even Divas have to work sometimes…
This Monday’s Mix is all bout the New Jack Swing! AGAIN!!!
Teddy Riley is and was a genius back in his Uptown days. Every album that came out by Uptown, I was up in the record store on 145th st and Amsterdam copping the 33! Believe that. My sweet sixteen party was almost completely a Teddy Riley party!!! All the Rice dances…the dances at the parks..Every teen party was an Uptown party in Harlem!
So enjoy the mix!
Merry Christmas…This mixtape is named Soul Christmas and I tried to include everyone’s favorite. I hope you enjoy and have a happy holiday!!!!!
This week I was inspired by Barack Obama. He always plays “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” by Stevie Wonder at the end of his campaign speeches. At first it kinda baffled me because Obama is in his mid forties. Then I remembered that it was probably his “Old School” choice. Every generation will have their “Old School” and I shudder to think that this stuff playing now will be the “Old School” choices for my 9 year old daughters (cringe).
The best of the biggest R&B girl groups of all times! The Supremes and Destiny’s Child!
This week I decided to do a little Diva/Band Mixtape. I mixed up with some funk and some disco. Found time to include a little rap which of course started in the 70′s. If you don’t know all the lyrics to Rapper’s Delight…you are not a black music fan!In that section Todd Kelly dropped through. [...]
